Lesson 11: Page 02

The terms: travel and leisure are used loosely to describe a wide range of subjects that commercial photographers can pursue. Consider travel and leisure and what types of clients and subjects that might entail: retirement communities, cruise ships, golf resorts, insurance companies, investment companies, health and fitness, restaurants and dining, and destination travel. You may also find just as many qualified clients in the editorial market for these subjects when they run a story on any of these leisure types of clients. No matter which area you may receive an assignment you will draw upon the same fundamental skills that any commercial photographer uses. Good composition, image styling, models and props, and incredible lighting skills will be put to use.The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.

The second photo was in the lobby as well. I did not have to change lighting that much and used the umbrella on left as the key light lighting their faces. You can see the lighting on the back of the man from that outside strobe creating an edge light on him. I also brought in closer the fill umbrella that was lighting the table and now acts as a fill on the couple. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.

Lesson 11: Page 04

This image required some ingenuity. The client wanted a shot of the couple enjoying the view form their deck at the back of their hotel room. The ‘deck’ was about the size of a small closet so even with my widest lens, capturing much of the view was tough. The lighting was even tougher. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.

THE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY

In this photo, taken on assignment I was asked to take photos of residents in a variety of settings. Since these photos are of the residents and not so much the facility, I used a 250 mm lens to isolate each person. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.

Lesson 11: Page 06

This photo was the chef of the restaurant. Here I used a large umbrella on the left to create a soft light quality and throw light everywhere. I also used a large white umbrella for fill, but when placed next to the camera it created a hot spot in the door way behind the chef. The solution is to raise the fill light just high enough to remove the hot spot in the door meaning it is up higher than what I see of the door.

Lesson 11: Page 07

This gentleman was photographed in the lounge. I used a large light box as key on the left and a small white umbrella for fill over the camera. I chose a camera angle so that my lights would not reflect in the glass by being off-angle to the angle of incidence.  I also bracketed the shutter speed for a darker and lighter outside exposure. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. EDITORIAL

Editorial means magazines and, there is a magazine for every business, craft, and hobby. You should market to these as much as any other client. The pay is never enough but some assignments are so it makes up for the low pay. Here again you will use the fundamental techniques that we so far have covered in this program. You will use your lighting skills for portraits, products, people on location, architecture and interiors, and more. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.

Lesson 11: Page 09

You can tell by this outfit that this was shot years ago as it is out of style. What is not however, is the style of the shot. Stand in line at the grocery story and look at all the magazines and you will find many use the knockout white background. The technique is the same, the subject and purpose of the shoot are different.

Lesson 11: Page 10

This was an assignment for Shape Magazine and they asked me to shoot a woman who practiced a lot of yoga to lose weight. She lived near a large city park so we met there in late afternoon. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.
