We have discussed the fundamental principles, quality, and variety of light and these are important to understand. In the studio, you will find that you apply these principles to your photography quite often as you work to build a photo using supplemental lights combined with ambient light.

Why is this important? Using one light can be a very nice way to light a product but it can also cause problems. The camera cannot see the range of light that our eyes can see so what may look good to our eyes may have to much contrast to the camera. So in some cases using one light causes a lot of contrast when it is the only light source, so we use fill lights to brighten the shadows and reduce lighting contrast.
