Feathering light

You will feather your lights to some degree on every photo you setup, no matter whether it is a portrait, product, or production shot. Feathering is a technique of moving the light in and out until you have the shadows or background gradation you desire.  The following diagram shows a side view of a tabletop setup and indicates how you feather a light forward and background. You loosen the boom and rotate the boom arm until the light/shadow area is where you want it behind your product. If you are shooting a portrait and your light box is spilling light onto the background, then feather the light away from your background and leave it more concentrated on your subject. The content you are trying to access is only available to members.
