Flash is very valuable when shooting all sorts of outdoor action and adventures. For rafting, I like to use a slow shutter speed and full flash to freeze the subject and have the action blur behind them. Here the aperture was f/5.6 and the flash outputted the correct amount of light for proper flash exposure while the camera chose (A/Av mode) a shutter speed of ¼ second. This technique is explained fully in lesson 4.
