I constantly discuss with my clients what I think will work and will not work based on what they told me they want. For example, I’m in a manufacturing plant and preparing to photograph the CEO and the art director has suggested an angle that includes a huge strip of lighting in the background. This lighting is blowing out and very distracting in the background so I take the initiative to suggest to the client that this is can be a problem and a distraction in the background and make a suggestion as to a better location to set up for the photo. If they want it the other way I will give it to him and I will do my best job to make the photo perfect, but oftentimes they listen to what I say and in the end we get a great photograph. It is your job as the photographer to input not only creative suggestions but technical suggestions as well and especially if something technical is going to be a problem for the photograph.
